Terra Hades

it all started this morning. I had that familiar contraction feeling and looked at my biological clock app. It has NOT been 32 days, you have got to be kidding me. Grrrrr... whatever the case I also remembered the outfit Cardo picked out for me and was thinking how those pants would work today. I already wanted to veto either the top or the bottom but, it's a challenge, gotta take the good with the bad.

I showered, dressed, and hit the road. i left earlier than usual so the lights were in my favor. Cool, park in my spot and thought to tidy up a bit. If I take one thing out of the car, it will be that much cleaner. Let me take this sweet tea outta here. Reach for the cup and *SWOOOOOOSH!* SWEET FUTHERMUCKING TEA ALL OVER MY ABS AND DEFINITELY IN MY LAP!!! I can't believe this! I step out of the car in hopes some of the liquid will drain into the street and I know I hollered "Fcuk my futhermucking life!" (but the real words). This can't be life right now. Now i'm standing and looking at the sweet tea soak into the drivers seat... OMG, Not cool. Okay, calm down, you have a whole closet in your trunk. I pop the trunk and get a beach towel, some yoga pants and a white tee. I try and soak up some tea from my seat but realize my clothes aren't getting any drier. Leave the towel in the seat and head to campus. My feet are slipping and sliding in the patent leather wedges Cardo picked out. Gotta get out of these too, they def won't go with yoga pants.

I change, slip into my crocs, and the day begins. It's okaaaay aside from my-uterine-region-letting-me-know-it's-still-here-and-would-like-something-to-occupy-its time and me wearing-the-clothes-I-tease-other-teachers-about *sarcasm*... then I remember pre-k is coming to visit. OMG, I have to bring out totally different centers that are age appropriate! My children are reading and writing novels! They do puzzles of dinosaur scenes! let me find some ABC puzzles and two word sentence books for their visit *grumble, grumble*

As you can imagine, the babies coming in reminded me of the WORST time of the school year... I ALWAYS forget how they come to us!!! I ALWAYS for get that they have to learn how to do EVERYTHING!!! I ALWAYS forget they don't know how to read or write! They were in a center for 5 minutes and wanted to move onto the next thing, one started crying cause the group she was paired with didn't do to library center, another one was determined to do spiderman... LAAAAAWWWWDDDD!!!

They left and my uterus REALLY started showing it's ass! Normally, the out of controlness is every other month. I have one bout it ovary who spits out eggs I'm sure will be HELLIONS once they are fertilized and I have the other one who is cool. Not this time. Cool Side wanted to be rebellious. She wanted to let me know, "Hey! I'm not going to be ignored anymore! Take THAT!" *JUDO CHOP* "and THIS!" *KAH-RAH-TAY KICK* "annnnnnnnnd FINISH HERRRRRR!" *NON-STOP RAPID FIRE PUNCHES*

Yeah, I had to take a knee. Then two knees. Then I just fell over. Some child brought me a pillow and I was laid out on the reading rug. I was moaning, I was whimpering, I was trying to find a comfortable position. I got into the fetal position "Ms. K I can see your back tattoo!!" I laid on my back, "Ms. K, I can see your star tattoo!! My mommy has a tattoo on her stomach!" The 600 mg of advil I took an hour earlier meant NOTHIIIIING. I told the children they can go to any center they want to but I should've known better. PAN.DE.MO.NI.UM.I couldn't take it. magic school bus video kept them quiet for 20 mins as I writhed in pain and thought of how I could get home cause there are more symptoms to the monthly than just cramps and I HAD to be ONLY home for them!

Silent snack time, pack your bags, y'all are going to other teachers classrooms. Then a reading coach comes in the room and sees my suffering. She helps me to the clinic where I actually start to cry from pain. As the contractions subside, I realize it's getting closer and closer for me to be getting home. That feeling is not going away. She walks me to my car and my push start doesn't work. MY PUSH START DOESN'T WORK! I CAN'T START MY CAR TO GO HOME! I take the metal key out and realize I don't know where the physical ignition is!!! OMFG, I just want to go home before I make a mess :-( She didn't drive her car today so now we're back in the clinic trying to find someone to take me home. The science lab teacher is all about it. I hobble to her car and we getting home. I'm moaning and she really wants to take me to the hospital but I tell her I've been here and done this before, I just need to go home. Of course we catch all the lights and as we turn down a side street I beg her to stop and pull over. Anything that wasn't digested due to all the attention down below comes up. I wonder if I even chew my food based on what was now in the grass on the side of the road. No wonder my metabolism is so high, my body works HARD to digest food! *yes these are thoughts between heaves*

We sit and get some fresh air. I feel 50% better. I get home and hit the bathroom for the other symptom. Not awesome. I change into looser pants and a loose fitting tee and pass out in my brother's bedroom, dreaming of who I can get to knock me up and rid me of this monthly curse.

Randoms

One of my children wrote down what his homie told him about a girl in my class. "Jermaine said you are sexse."

1. What do you know about "sexse"? How old are you that you used that word for a classmate???

2. Should I've reminded him about the trailing 'y' and how it sounds like 'ee'? i.e. "sunnY", "cloudY", "StaceY"?

3. I wonder how I should've responded... I don't talk sex with 5 y.o.

*

Real talk, I thought I was going to get a ring this weekend. Drew made a big deal out of going to UM this weekend and got a hotel room at the most magnificent hotel I've ever been in, The Mayfair (waaaaaaaaaay prettier in person!)... for apparently no reason. But here's the kicker, when we checked out and got back to his place, he held my hand and said, "I'm looking for a stone for your ring."

*blink blink*

*

Tima is starting to grow on me. Bump that, she has grown on me. I was sooooooooooooo ready to give her back! But guess who REALLY likes her?? Mom Dukes! Little does she know, she's getting her!

*

I talk a big game about growing my hair but I reeeeeeallly like it "short". I'm starting to think the longest I'll grow it is chin-length. A graduated bob with the gentlest layers in the back sounds too chic! I can do the sleek look, I can do the roller wrap wavy look... I'm a fan!

Speaking of hair, my sister cut hers off. She really needed to. Her nape has not grown since her Sweet 16 when she first glued tracks to it. yeah. And if you know Mini Me, she STAYS with some weave in her hair; it never got a chance for fresh hair or a chance to rest. We shall see how long this will last.

*

It hit me that if I still lived with my parents, I would be more than able to afford a new car. Like, an actual new car. I'd never buy a brand new car but if I wanted to, I could've. My rent alone takes two car payments. Then there's my ortho bill, cell phone, car insurance, and utilities. I need a two income household.

*

Drew and I spent most of the weekend in Dade County. I so want to live there. While driving to UM, we looked at the pretty mediterranean houses and admired every last one. Then while on the topic, I asked if he wanted to own a house. He said yeah, so I asked why. He couldn't think of a reason. Then he was like, "Why DO we have to own a house? It's a nice idea but whose nice idea was it that it has to be ours?" My thoughts exactly. But, I do want a yard for children to play in wiffle ball in. And a driveway to put up a basketball goal. And the idea of renting a house sounds weird. Maybe when our first born turns 5, we'll buy a house. At the rate we're going, I'll holla at a mortgage at 40.

I watched '16 & Preg.nant' for the first time this weekend. Wow. Wow.

At a Loss

I have nothing profound to say. I sometimes feel like I'll be wasting your time if I come on here with ramblings but sometimes, that's all you got!

- I am quietly excited my sister is coming home for thxgiving. We haven't talked since labor day but when I found out she was in daytona, at the SAME HOTEL we were in a couple weeks ago, we both got over it and chatted up her pageant, Miss Black FL. She made Top 5.

- my hair is not the beat. this bad ass length makes me want to cut it but I need to get over that. I miss my length. At the very least, I miss the roller wrap bob I had last year at this time

- my students are off the chain. one of them was drawing a picture of himself and used a yellow crayon. "Antwone, you are NOT yellow!" "I know, I'm milk chocolate but I'll just use brown."

*DIED*

and there's a girl in my class who my mom ADORES. my kinder reminds Mommy of me when I was 5 AND reminds her of herself when she was little. AWWWWWWWW!

-I'm teaching my students dictionary skills right now. They know better that to ask me how to spell a word. First I tell them to use their environment. If it's not ANYWHERE in my print-rich room, then I direct them to the dictionary in our classroom library. They love it! Phonetic spelling is only cute when the word is 'whale' and you forgot the 'h' ("I can arch like a wale").

- I need some new music in my life. Hook a sister up. I am DEF feeling Breezy's latest but I've gotten over getting a whole album based on one hot track. I hear that new Ri is that fire. tell me about Drizzy. and I think I will backtrack and get all of Jay's stuff. and his wife.

- wow, I just remembered, not even remembered but was alerted, (via twitter) that me and Drew have been an official couple for 2 years and 11 months today. i am so embarrassed right now cause he called me but I didn't answer cause the phone was "too far". it was in the next room :-(

- dani mentioned a day trip to NYC...there is a $160 plane ticket to LGA for dec 8... who wants to go? leave on a tuesday and come back on thursday? yes? let me know! GIRLS TRIP!! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK!!! why not? we def can't wait till we're married with children! OMG, I almost shuddered at how life changes DRASTICALLY when there's a mini you.

- I have way too many pairs of shades. I get it from my daddy. they are such an awesome accessory! now if only my hair will be my awesome accessory...

- I'm obsessed with jeans again. before I went off to college, I realized it gets cold where I was going and so I bought a whole bunch of jeans. back in those days, they were odd numbered. LOL. Anyway, have bought SEVEN pairs of jeans in the past 6 weeks. and one pair looks denim but they are more like dark chambray.

- is there a certain shirt that's hot? the last time I really bought shirts was when I wrecked shop in forever twentee one in Pittsburgh. oh, and the box sale at xpress 3 years ago. and I barely wear any of those shirts cause I don't want to look like a "24 y.o. who just graduated from college and got her a little money", you know? I'd really like some cashmere mini pocket tees from xpress... do they still make those? a much better look for the same comfort as a tee shirt!

- and speaking of same comfort, Jameil said something that has stuck with me. I think we were watching what not to wear together when she asked, "Why dress raggedy? It takes the SAME energy to put on homely sweatpants and an ugly tee!"

So deep. Yo, when it rains, ninjas get wet.

OH! Another one of my kinder gems!!

"If you only have one leg, you have to hop"

LMAO!! I LOVE THEM!!

on that note, i'm out.

Life

I hung up on my mom the other day. She was hollering about her plane ticket and I told her to stop yelling. She said she wasn't yelling so I told her to stop talking loud. She calmed down for a second but got excited all over again. No ma'am. End call.

My principal is trying to play me and the other patrol sponsor. We jumped on every fundraiser we could (gormay lollipops, chocklate, scented pencils, car washes, etc) and were able to raise about $200 for each patrol!! That is AWESOME! Whatever the case, all our bills have been paid so whatever merchandise is left is for the patrols to go on another trip after FCAT. Why is she telling us, "go ahead and bring everything to the front office and we'll take care of it" THE HELL YOU WILL! WE'LL take care of it! Not finna be using our money to have Christmas parties at your house...

My Ghanian godfather passed away. Just found out my American godfather is deathly ill. Went to see him today and I just can't believe the shadow of a man that sits where my pillar of a Godfather used to stand. With his baritone voice, not quite as bari as it used to be, we talked about the school district. He's General Counsel for PBCSD and offered some inside info on our new CAO (chief academic officer). I suddenly don't hate him anymore. And dislike my principal even more.

Drew is here. We played wee at best by and it was great. Oh yeah, I can watch TV now!!! So EXCITED!! It pays to have a guy around. They really do earn their keep.

Funny how I got excited but I don't really watch TV... at least I have the option to watch basic programming on the networks.

My children are too smart for me. I'm kidding. They are challenging me to challenge them more than the previous years have. I'm going to have some superstars in 1st grade next year! Things are snapping and trapping in their little brains now. They have schemata to fall upon and we both LOVE it when something from their past comes into their present and it makes sense to them. For example, I read a book titled Mouse-Mess. Talked about different foods, etc, etc. Just yesterday, during the phonics lesson, we talked about things that start with O and I introduced 'olives'. Okay. When centers rolled around and a group was at Big Books, Shy said, "Ms. von K! Olives! I know that that word is! I looked at the picture and sounded out the 1st letter!"

*TEAR*

My reading strategies are working!!

Anyhoo, that's where I am today.

Happy Veterans' Day. My paternal grandfather fought in WWII for the BEF.

Mean Teacher

Sidebar- We know I got a new phone... why did I get it on the day tee-mobile's network goes down? Not just the cydekick server but the entire TEE-MOBILE network?? Why won't the devil leave me and my phones alone?!?!

Is it a sidebar if I haven't even started the post???

Mean Teacher

I have to tell my students I am bringing her out. I write Mean Teacher on the board and I draw a mean face. Them being 'Hater Class, 2023', said,
"Is that your sad face?"
I snapped back, "NO! It's a mad face!! To go with the Mean Teacher you guys are getting tomorrow!!"

We'll see how it goes. I think I might stick with her today. Usually, they behave themselves I don't even get a chance to change colors but today? IT'S ON!

On another note... patrols.

that's that bull isht.

We got played from Day 1. I've said for, going on 3 years, "I got to get out of this place!" This is my 3rd year so I'm good! Holla at your girl! Matter of fact, don't.

Now on to that goal list I said I'd update.

pledge grad chapter
(and I forgot the last one that was on my mind...)

Yeah, it's really a big deal to me. Still.

Ummm...

school is over in EXACTLY one week.

that's 5 school days.

I can't believe it.

As of now, I'm not sad yet.  Watch out for a mopey Monday post about my babies going on to 1st grade.

Awwwww!  That's what I do!!  I send children on to 1st grade!!!  Hopefully, I've done my job and they flourish the rest of their academic careers!!!

I know my students love coming to school!  Parents tell me they have to beg their children to stay home AFTER BEING DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL!!! True story, my little Dani woke up from emergency surgery and asked, "Can I go to school now?"  AWWWWWWWW!! MELTED MY HEART!!!!

But yeah, this year, so different from last year.  the children came in lower (see: not as bright) and as usual, I was worried I wouldn't be able to handle it.  Maaaaaaan, I'm sending this class on better than the last!  I worked harder this year, had a bit more swag with mine, and I have writers!! I think that is my biggest accomplishment this year... serious writers.

Anyhoo, as you may or may not have heard via tweeter, I have the best kindergarten class at school.  I can't wait for next school year :-)

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Doh!

I deleted the pics of the kindergarten field trip before I uploaded them to my mac and on the various websites... luckily, I printed them out the same day but still :-(

I have pics of the projects we did for Spring Break. We made a Lion-Lamb out of paper plates because....

"March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb!"

My students were so cute when they read that :-)

We also made a wind sock out of pretty printer paper and tissue paper. Both projects came out MUCH better than I expected!

*

I'm off to Hollywood for the day. Drew and I are going to See E. Badu, Common, Ath Hamilton, Roy A, and Will Down. Yazz in the Gardens 2009. Then tomorrow, my Spring Break road trips begin!! State of Florida, here I come!!

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

March drives me MAD!

The month started FREEZING cold.

Then it was BLAZING, Africa hot.

Today, I woke up and it was POURING.
Like, "everyday in the summertime between 1-2:25pm anywhere in Florida" raining. You better ask somebody who knows about Florida summers.... hurricane season as we like to call it cause its pretty much summertime year-round. The house we built in Tallahsse was pushed back several weeks cause of raining and subsequent flooding.

*

In March, some over 100 days of school into the year, TWO of my children were full out crying. As if it was the 1st day of school and they had separation anxiety. To their young defense, we had our award assembly and they saw their parents in the audience. Still, act like you know we have snack and reading at this time! This is not a new day!

*

Yo, there are some 50 school days left in the year! I can't wrap my mind around that... I basically have two months to get my kinders even tighter than they are! OMG, my students have BLOSSOMED in the last few weeks!! There was a point where we were all on the up and up and then it seemed like they plateau-ed. I was worried. Oh no, these children are pulling tricks out their bags and are quite frankly, STUNNING me! For example, writing.

Writing has always been my least fave subject to teach. Its so subjective and there is no "right" way to teach kinders how to write. Math is cut and dry. Reading is letters, then sounds, then blending. Writing? *exasperated sigh*

I tried to do what other teachers have been successful with but it wasn't working for my class. Just this Monday, we put together a paper flower in science and I used it as a independent prompt for writing. I said, "Write about your flower" and let them do whatever comes to mind. Can I share the work I got?

"I like my flower. My flower is blue. I can plant seeds. My flower have a stem. The flower have a leaf."

Ummmm, that's 5 sentences. FIVE sentences!! Can I tell you how these children came in barely knowing how to hold a pencil and write their own names?!?!!!?!?!?!!?!? I asked my stellar writer, "Who taught you how to write so well!??!" and he replied,
"I just know."

Word???????? Ummm, don't make me pull out the paper when your name was a whole bunch of wingdings!!!!! Talking bout, "I just know.."

lol

*

So next week, we have a field trip on Wednesday...

Regular day Thursday...

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY!!!

SPRING BREAK IS HERE!!

You know once SB gets here, its a FOR REAL countdown to the end of the school year!

All I know, is that March better get right by next week!

Random Day

1. Ummm, I have FIVE pairs of Chucks.
Pink, Cream, Green, Yellow, Red.

Really, Stace?

The next number I have multiples of is 3. Then there are a lot of fraternal twins

2. I don't think I'm going to get tired of American Boi. Estelle is my GIRL! and you know I love 'Ye

3. I just found out an ex, the first boyfriend I had at FAM, passed away last week. Gastric bypass gone wrong. I was shocked, more so by how big he must have gotten to need gastric bypass.

4. I have to get my chronic sinusitis in order. Just found out my grand uncle and Ghanian godfather found multiple myelomas in his nasal cavity. He's been a long time sufferer of sinusitis.

5. I still can't open my mouth to its widest cause of what the ortho tech did to me and the resulting infection. I was almost in tears trying to eat a breakfast sandwich from Micki Dee's this past Tuesday

6. Last week, I was thinking if marriage is what Drew and I do on the weekends but everyday, I'm not sure I want that. Kinda boring.

7. I still don't know what the Poke feature on Stacebook means. Mini Me said it's to get someone's attention. the person who has been poking me EVERYDAY has my phone number and unlimited text... I don't know what the problem is.

8. My car has been at the shop since yesterday evening. You know how much money that thing is going to cost if its been getting worked on for 24 hours? Now I know they aren't working on it round the clock but damn! Where is my Tima?!

9. Diana Ross is my celebrity idol. I love her almost as much as I love MJJ. When I was younger, I used to fluff out my hair out and sing along to her videos; much to the dismay of Mom Dukes

10. Drew and I have challenged Dani and Shayne to a game night. Jam and Rah, Joy and Kesi, Patti and PHI, La and BOB, y'all are next in our Will and Grace-esque domination.

11. I am seriously going to have a coffee table book of children's art one day. It's like invented spelling without words. So straight to the point and literal. and don't let there be a caption like, "It is sunee. We can rid bix" (It is sunny. We can ride bikes. the long 'I' is tricky, as is the trailing 'y')

12. On the way home from work on Friday, I realized I only want one child. A girl with the prettiest name I can think of. But that can be lonely...

13. I really want a black Coach with gold hardware. This one. But she's too big for me. I cyber tried her on.

14. I think I might send myself some flowers on Friday. Naw, I'll just get some from Publicks.

15. I'm bored.

16. I'm waiting for 'Single Ladies' to come on the radio while Drew and I are in the car so I can abruptly ask Drew if/when he's going to put a ring on it. I think that would be an awesome ice breaker.

17. I need new music in my life.

18. I think I need a good cry. I feel like I'm on emotional auto-pilot

19. My bro is turing 25 this Thursday. I can't believe it. I hope 25 is as good for him as it was for me. Then there's the other side of 25...

20. I burst Jameil's bubble about going to the beach in Virginia in October and it was funny.

Oh, Kids

In honor of Black History Month, my class made a mini book of May Jemeson. Four little pages that are appropriate for their age:

"Mae was the first black woman in space." and they color a space shuttle in space
"She is a doctor too." they color a picture of Mae with a stethescope and a patient
"Mae won lots of awards" they show trophies and certificates

In hindsight,

I really should've put her picture up on the presentation station while I was talking about her, kinders need visuals.

Guess how many children colored Dr. Jem BLACK? Like, the actual color BLACK? She looked like a halloween costume in her orange NASA suit!

One kid exclaimed, "Oh! She's not black! She's brown! Like me!"

Oh, the simpler days.

He's Got a Point...

In class, we are doing a unit on weather and seasons. During science, I ask the class to give me different kinds of weather:

"Rainy!" "Cloudy!"

"Partly Cloudy!" "Sunny!"

"Foggy!" "Windy!"

"Snowy!" "It doesn't snow in Florida!!"

"It snows in Georgia!" "And Virginia!"

Okay, they know what they're talking about! Granted, we choose the weather for day during calendar so it was just a matter of remembering what weathers they've seen. Learning at its finest.

We talked about how sky looks during each weather, what it feels like, something we can do, etc.

"You can fly a kite when it's windy"
"You can go to the beach when it's sunny!"
"You can play four corners when it's rainy!
"

Okay, y'all know a lil sum'!! Now its time for seasons which is a harder concept to grasp.

"Who can name the seasons? There are only four of them."

"Winter"

then silence so I gave them a hint

"When its really hot outside, and you don't have school, its...

"Summer!"

This next answer came from my favorite boy.

Jordan, you have your hand up. What's another season?

"Basketball"

"Basketball seas-? You know what? You are so right"

twas the last day of school.

ya girl was DEAD tired from the week. That sunday, she was up all hours playing cards and hadn't fully re-couped yet. the rest of the week was spent trying to keep 16-19 six-year-old busy from 8am-2pm. but friday came and I successfully conquered my first year of teaching!!

but first, we were looking thru our memory books right?

i drew a picture of myself and my friend (another kinder teacher). why did one of my students say, "you forgot the dots on your face"

my mad rapper/boston celtic 2020, straight out of highschool! OMG! My 1st class is The Class of 2020!!

i made the comment that kids today only know how to play video games and wouldn't know what to do with a jump rope. Your honor, may I present exhibit A to the jury?

All in all, today was FUN!!! Guess who loves being a teacher!?!?!?!?

Saturday, May 10, 2008

was I supposed to know??

can I tell you how when I was walking my students back to the classroom, they told me to stay outside so they could "surprise" me as I walked in?? Aren't they the sweetest?!!?

Saturday, May 03, 2008

boooooo... yay!

the Madd.ens think they're slick. So I can get free shipping on all orders now thru tomorrow yet... they raised the shoe prices by $10. keep that. I'll go to the store and get them myself.

Who can I write about that?! That's WRONG!! So because I'm getting free shipping you're going to jack the price up 12.5%??? yeah, I did the math!! i know the deal! You're going to DOUBLE my tax to cover your shipping costs! keep them. i feel insulted.

I had my day in court.  Changed my plea to 'no contest' and they dropped the HOV violation  :-) b/c i've re-instated my license, there was "no adjudication" on that charge. so all I have to pay is the $76 in court fees by july 1  :-)

OMG. The biggest news this year (for me)...

I'M GOING TO THE GLOW IN THE .DARK CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DREEZY BABY GOT TIX FOR US TO SEE

rihanna
LUPE
N..E.RD
KANYE

WHO IS EXCITED!?!?!?!??! I AM!!!?!?!?!?!?!?? I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE LIGHT SHOW!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT GLOWS!!!!!  I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! I'M SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on a lighter note, Andrew had to say, "for that price, there better be a lot of glowing and there better be a lot of dark.  everything better glow in the dark!  matter of fact, i don't even want to see anything it better be so dark; DARKNESS, DARKNESSES!"

who has an asshole boyfriend?

I DO!  but I love him much!!!

So Tuesday, I will be in the MIA geeked.  and Wednesday, I will be hurting at school, hoarser than and bitch (and a bitch be hoarse) and THURSDAY...

i will be 26.

You already know I'm having my party at school, right? why did the little monchee-chees say, "you can't have cake.  old people don't have cake"

WHO SAID THAT?!  NO CAKE FOR YOU!

so kidding, LOL

Okay, must go now.  I have a funeral to attend.  Remember the pics of the woman who turned 99 on Palm Sunday? She passed in her sleep last Saturday.  We are going to celebrate her wonderful life :-)

*smiling*

today was a good day! why? i got gangsta on my class and was changing colors left and right. For those of you who don't know, behavior modification in the lower grades is usually done by color. Green is good and it goes from there. yellow, orange, red, blue. i've only had to put one student on blue since i started and that means principal's office; a BIG GINORMOUS deal if you're in kindergarten!! especially since our prin is 6'5. He looks as imposing as his title suggests!

so yeah, i changed hella colors today. a bit sadistic, i agree. But here's the flip side. Those children who managed to stay on green got either a choc chip cookie or sugar cookie from publix, and at the end of the day, a swish cup filled with Gold.fish crackers. I LOOOOOOOOVE my Green students!! if they stay on green all week, they get treasure box which has COOOOL STUFF like glow sticks (for the future ravers, duh), mini jars of play-d.oh, sparkly pencils, watches, etc.

but here's the real reason why i am toooooooo excited.

I have 4 kids who get speech therapy twice a week. Today, my favorite girl took her mini reader we've been working on to speech to read to the therapist. Why did the therapist come back crying with joy? she interrupted my whole group reading to tell me that my heart (D.Jones), is pronouncing so well; reading with fluency, intonation and prosody, she's doing a WONDERFUL job, and she kept on going on and on. then she started welling up again and added, "you are such a marvelous teacher, oh my gosh the growth in your students! please always send the mini readers with them cause its literally bring tears to my eyes to see and hear the product of your awesome work!! I am so proud! Ms. Kutieboots you are doing an awesome job!"

*batting eyelashes* who me??? lil ole newbie me?? AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!! SHUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wait. I have one more reason to be excited. technically, two.

So i volunteered to do after-school tutoring with kinders who are on the bubble of promotion. All of us submitted names to the reading coach of children who need an extra boost in reading and reading skills and therefore will move on to 1st grade. Mind you, I volunteered. I went to pick up my students (who come from the 5 other teachers, we don't get our own students) and why did they cheer cause I was their tutor?? Who was feeling her head inflate a little bit?

me.

Get back to my classroom and I outline how our 1 hour sessions will be. Time really does fly when you're having fun! I wanted just 15 more minutes!!! Oh well, we did 3 out of the 4 12-minute activities I had planned but I was able to get in my read-aloud. Dr. Se.uss is an AWESOME man. Pure genius. I need allllll his books in my life. Him and eric ca.rle. Anyway, I read I Can Read with My Ey.es Shut and emphasized the part, "the more you read, the more you know". Its so true!!!! reading is the best thing you can do for a child. Even if its a book they already know, read it over and over again for fluency which is a GINORMOUS deal!

damn! in my excitement, i need to digress!!

So about tutoring that i volunteered for. Why did I find out that we get paid for this?

who's too happy to do what she loves and get paid for it? Oh my gosh, God is so good!

one last thing that is tied to this. another teacher had one of my babies. another one of my cuties who I adore. mad rapper from boston who loves to play basketball... anyhoo, she said my student was a delight and the most well mannered child in her group. so excited and driven to do well!!

guess who was beaming from ear to ear??

me.

*sigh* I love my job.

P.S. I asked my lil mexic.can what his favorite number is.

"seventy hundred and one".

I asked (to clarify),

"71?" and he said,

"No Ms. Kutieboots! seventy hundred and one! i like that number! a lot!"

FICKLE! how you just gon change up like that? what if I got you a shirt with '161' embroidered on it? how would I look now?
