It is Thursday.  Yes, I have work in the morning but, guess what?

NO KIDS!!

UGH, these last days of school worked my NERVE!!  and the amount of money spent!!!!  Well, I made sure not to spend too much; I bought some Dora popsicles (instead of publicks) so I blew a whole $4.25... them joints are BANGIN!!  Somethings I just can't buy store brand... like feminine products and salsa.

Any hoo, I thought about having a end of the year party but that costs money!!!  I just played it off as a pajama jam.  We relaxed in our jammies with popcorn and popsicles. HOLLA!!!

Summertime is here, Dei, what's on your agenda?  

Well... I plan on cleaning my classroom, going out to lunch with the K-Block (kindergarten team), and listening to MY CDs (not kidz bop or anything rated G) really loud for the first time in a long time!!!! and then

nothing.  I plan on doing nothing.  Office Space?  Meet Teacher Stace.

I'm lying.  

Thrusday afternoon, I get the hair done...

Friday, I meet with the principal who is TOOOOO geeked I volunteered to be the patrol sponsor, then I attend the faculty luncheon, 

Saturday, I'm going to a sorority brunch with guest speaker DONNA*BRAZILE (YES!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET HER!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!)

Sunday, I hope I can make it to church

and the rest is in the air, just like I LOVE it.  Maybe I'll go to Hollywood, maybe I'll go to the beach, maybe I'll watch movies, maybe do an SVU marathon...

"my goal in life" was to be a socialite. 23 years old and all I could think of was having a drink named after me. i need something bigger and better. how bout a building at a college? a wing at a hospital? an elementary school?

I was "so cool" cause I was an oxymoron. A party animal-homebody, a smart blonde.

No, now I know who I am. First and foremost, I am a teacher. I use my profession to define me cause that's how strongly I feel about what I chose to do with my life. I teach therefore I love. or, I love therefore I teach. pick one.

Whatever the case, I'm not going to pick pieces out of some 600+ posts to highlight my change. I'm just going to applaud it.

OMG, so comfy! and they fit just right! and they make big booties look right, OW! (juicy, duh!!) the cotton joints are bomb, the lace ones are bomb... I've moved up to their t-shirts and they are cool too. They feel like a "favorite" tee the first time you put them on; worn without that distressed look. As a fanatic for all things comfy (see: sweatsuit), I know I will break down and get a track suit from out of there one day *smh*

I know how annoyed I get when I go to someone's blog and the first thing you see the title of the post you read last week...


Nothing special has happened since I last posted. My 5 day weekend was anything but restful. Oddly split between here and Hollywood b/c family and friends were coming and leaving on different days.

Thursday- i cooked the entire meal. turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, squash, stuffing, mac & cheese, gravy from scratch. what made me mad was that i had to set the table as well! a little help here!?!?

pops left saturday and that was a hassle. he was supposed to leave from PBI but the luggage situation was some fcukery so serious, we drove all the way to ft. laud airport for a flight that was leaving 2 hours later. Mind you, I just left there that morning to see my dad off. Now i'm driving back AND coming back to west palm!

a family friend came down late saturday night for a wedding on sunday. she was supposed to come much earlier in the day and I was basically sitting up in my room waiting for her. booooooo, total waste of a day. At the last minute, I went to the mall with kitty to get a dress for the wedding we're attending THIS weekend! Tried it on and it is sooooooooo my dress for the season!! I LOVE IT!!!

Sunday, we went to church, the mall to find Bro some shoes to wear with his suit and get the wedding present for the afternoon event.

i swear I have the record for attending the most weddings in one calendar year! I will refresh your memory PLUS add TWO more weddings (indicated by a *) that have come into the radar!! AAAAAAAHHH!!

So while on the subject of weddings, my bro was ring shopping when we went to the mall on sunday. I think Kita (fam friend) and I hurt his feelings in regards to the ring he was looking at for his girl. The thing was too big!!! and he was so confused cause he thought all chicks want the biggest iciest ring but that ish was...



the terms Kita and I used were,

The thing is, it was a whole bunch of stones as opposed to one big stone or even 3 nice sized stones. He saw 3.25 carats, we saw a lot of .125 and .25 carats put together. and there is nothing wrong with TDW being split up, it actually cuts down on the cost of the ring, but not when its put together the way that ring was.

Anyway, I chatting abt it with one of my oldest friends, when she said ,
"ginormous hood rich ring = wedding with 8 flower girls, 16 jr. brides, and 23 bridesmaids"
I bout died right there!!

a HU homie of mine has been blasting his love for the McCan't-Plain ticket and I thought he was joking or being facetious. But it kept on going and going and going...

It just makes me wonder what does he see in them? I know he's not a military man or someone over 65 or a large corporation who would "benefit" from the Mc-P administration...

he is a young man trying to become this great director. he's "directing" his first movie in 2008 but that got changed to "tv show".

he is a middle school health teacher and I know for a fact that the Nat'l Ed Assoc, and the American Fed of Teachers; the two largest teacher orgs have publicly endorsed Rocky. not saying, "well if they did it, then I should too" but...

I'm not sure if his parents went to school here the way my dad did but I know he is Nigerian, 1st generation. Immigrants for education or just a better way of life?

I just don't get what a young black, first generation, college educated, teacher by day, "budding" artist by night, civilian man would see in anyone besides Barack. In Barack, we see ourselves. How can you not want the best for yourself?

THURSDAY
I get off of work around 4pm. I'm thinking, "I've packed my bags so we can get on the road asap"

nope. Bro doesn't get to the house till 530 and after all the talking and reassuring (pops is such a worrier although he tries to be the cool one) we FINALLY leaving around 6pm.

We get to tally around midnight as expected b/c of the time we left, chat it up with Kitty and I hit the sack. Bro drives the car to his fiance's house which is out in the northern part of bumbafcuk, just past 'the hell we at?' population 215.

FRIDAY
I'm soooooooo looking forward to homecoming convocation!! we get up, bro comes over for breakfast, and we're off. I'm looking cute in a cream boat neck top with dark denim bottoms tucked into some flat brown boots. luckily, kitty lives in the neighborhood by school so walking to the gym where convocation is is no problem. we're walking on campus and thinking, "its awfully quiet for homecoming friday... maybe EVERYBODY is in the gym"

yeah, no. the gym is DECKED OUT for the president's inaguration reception following convo. we ask someone in the gym, "where is convocation at?" he tells us, "Lee Hall" (the eqiv of ogden for my REAL HU people). Ok, no worries. another walk across campus and up some stairs and down some hills... we've done this before...

about that Lee Hall?

yeah, no. Doors locked, parking lot empty, tumbleweeds rolling...

We ask ANOTHER person, "where is convocation this year?" and she tells us, "its streaming live from the Civic Center" (see: colliseum)

Kitty & I did one of those quick, "civic cen-? oh hell naw" That means cars and parking and traffic??... hell naw on that one. we walk back to her house and watch harlem nights. fall asleep on the couch and wait for another friend of ours to come in from daytona.

Trissy comes in, we wake up and go to Yardfest. The dope boy music is in full effect. Not really my scene cause its a whole bunch of baby goons and I'm actually looking for alumni I haven't seen since graduation.

I saw 1. and he's not even my favorite person.

I did see my ZPhi friends of mine but again, they weren't the ones I was coolest with. I asked about their LS friends of mine and none of them made it.

I didn't see ANY of my favorite people :-( But while on the subject of goons, I saw my sister!! YAY! She was showing too much skin under the pretense of it being "hot" and it took me back to those HU days when we'd have a 73 degree reprieve and I'd bust out the shorts and if it was HOT! Tris and Kitty had to do some stuff in the bandroom and we went over there, caught up with some drum major homies and then walked back to the practice field where the hundred was playing.

hung out there for a while and went back to kitty's. her family was coming in from west palm and we wanted to be home.

they get here, we catch up, we eat hamburgers cause her pops brought his giant grill and before you know it, its time for night practice. that's when EVERYBODY comes to the field and watches what's going to happen the next day.
Old heads take an instrument from a freshman and show them how to play stand music, sectionals take place, pics are snapped...

its over and we're back at kitty's; calling people up to see what they are getting into. afterall, its halloween and we know there must be SOMETHING going on!

SATURDAY
Its game day! But before that, one of my fave fierce guy friends (read how you want to) is having a brunch and the mimosas are flowing. If you remember, Bro drove the car to the other side of east madagascar (affectionately known as 'the country'). I have NO way of getting there. I text my sadness and we plan on getting together after the game. After that, Kitty, fam and I start to get ready for the game. I'm crunk cause i'm wearing a long sleeve black tee with my fave jeans, patent leather mary jane flats and a green scarf in my hair. my spring jacket is the prettiest shade of peach so i feel school spirited without compromising style. i mean, a hanes tee shirt is only so fly (sarcasm). i cop these gangsta mirror aviators from a vendor and i'm done!

we're about to walk in when they tell us that students need to go to a gate opposite of where we are... *eye roll* fine. it just so happens that as we're walking, i see my fave professor!!! OMG!!! I start screeeeeeeeeeeeaming cause I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE her!!!!! hugs and kisses and pictures and talking about campaigning and on and on... then I realize kitty is standing there and we have to get going!! the best seats (by the band) will be taken by the time I finish chatting it up! we go, I use mini me's ID and its all good.

We find some good seats close to the section the band is sitting in. Then I see the cheerleaders and go down to get pics of MM. Snap, snap. and I come back to my seat. The crowd goes, "ooooh! someone fell!" Kitty says, "i think SK3 fell" and my heart drops.

"no, that wasn't.... where is she?"

I see the coach and asst, and captains surrounding someone on the ground and I'm looking for my big head sister and her barbie weave... I don't see her! "Ok, where is she? Lord, please don't let that be her!" Kitty says, "Stace, whoever she is isn't getting up and I don't see Steph" I run back down the stands and look. Its my little sister. I toss my camera and shades into someone's hands and hop the bar. I'm kneeling by my crying sister who is complaining about her neck and I ask, "what happened?" the coach says, "she was in a stunt and she fell. she landed on her neck and shoulder"

OMG, please no! I'm shaking and asking MM if she can move anything but the paramedics are strapping her neck and body to a board. she's taken off the field before the pregame show even begins.


we're at the actual ambulance now when Bro joins us on the verge of tears. he wants to know what happened and who her base was; who dropped his baby sister. i know from phone calls every week that her base was the mediocre group.

MM doesn't want to go to the hospital but her neck and back are hurting and we want her to get an x-ray. They take her and she needs a CT scan as well. As you can imagine, the ER on homecoming weekend was NOT the place to be. hella drunks. people all in the hallway on the verge of alc. poisoning.

it takes FOR.EV.ER.

We spent the whole day there.

She has a neck sprain and gets prescribed some rx strength ibuprofen.

The only games we watched was what was on TV.

Now of course, the game is over so EVERYBODY is on the road. traffic is a BITCH cause like I mentioned earlier, Kitty lives walking distance to campus.

I was tired from being at the ER all day. I call people to find out what's going on and whatnot, people are paying upwards of $75 to get into the club. yeah no. any other weekend that place is $free.99 so you know I wasn't trying to see that.

I kinda wish I did. It would've been better than what I did...

NOTHING.

Saturday night, I did nothing. Wait, I'm lying.











I ate. I wrapped my hair. I went to bed. 1037pm.

SUNDAY
We go to the vendors and I cop some BOMB obama shirts!! then it's time for church, I go and come back, pack, grab Bro from a homie and we're out.

That was my weekend.

I can't wait!


I just hope no foolishness goes down. It is an HBCU and there's bound to be some niggadness in ABUNDANCE... *eye roll* My people, my people.


I'm looking for a house party to attend... not trying to do the hot ass club scene, more like the alumni gathering where you don't even have to write, "for the grown and sexy" cause that is sooooooooo 2005

So the check for the 2nd of my 3 credit card debts cleared today. Last month, I was doing jumping jacks at the thought of today. The day where my credit will have so many changes due to cards that haven't seen any payment since 2005 now being PAID.

yeah, not so much. In a drastic and characteristically rash move by myself, on YomKippur, I decided to call two agencies and work things out.

Now today is here and as usual, I have none, (n-u-n) money but

WHY AM I TOO GLAD THAT SCHOOL HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR TOMORROW!?!?!

I was upset that broward and dade counties closed today and tomorrow and I know the only reason why palm beach closed was b/c the two counties NORTH of us cancelled!! But guess what!?!?


I DON'T CARE!!!

Now on the flip side, I do feel bad that a hurricane is the reason why school is out. I know they leave nothing but devastation wherever they hit; I personally think one can NEVER be fully prepared for a hurricane... you can have all the water and batteries in the world...

damn, now I'm sad.

while on the sad note, I called drew around midnight. I was dead ass asleep and something came over me. I felt like I was wasting my youth and God-given talent. we always talk about making a change and I KNOW I am but I want to do it on a more meaningful level. I feel the need to leave the country and go to where destitution is a way of life, not a part of town. I did apply to Teach For Africa last year and chickened out at the last minute. I never sent the completed app in. So blessed/spoiled, I couldn't imagine being in Africa for more than a month. Then it hit me as I was crying on the phone that if I don't do it now, when will I ever do it? Not when I've put in 10 years and have been settled in my position. Not when I'm a mom of an elementary school aged child. When? I need to do it now while I'm unmarried and have no kids, just started my career and I'm young and resilient enough to handle what may come my way.

just a thought.

It's The Most...

wonderful time... of the year!

That's a Stap.les commercial.  It shows a dad riding on a shopping cart throwing school supplies in it; joyfully skipping and picking up notebooks... then you see the kids in the background looking like, "yeah? it's the most wonderful time of the year?  bet."

I am kind of excited to go back to school but all the preparation is stressing me out.  Word walls, behavior charts, number lines, random ass posters of bears wearing certain colors, rules, code of conduct, center signs...

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

Nevertheless, I will do what I got to do before "Meet the Teacher" on Thursday night and work it out from now till June.

RIGHT next to a fish market smelling like thrown up sushi!?!? Flip flops and shorts?!!?  No ma'am.  I will say this, inside is really nice. Now Posh was bomb.  Although the drinks could've been better... but with no cover and people dressed to impress, I sooooo didn't complain (or pay!)

Ash and I wake up sometime around 730am. We just can't sleep in! No matter how long or strenuous the previous day was, we still get up early!! we start rummaging around in the kitchen to start on out fruit basket and soon every one else is awake. Bea and Bran get to cooking breakfast (biscuits, eggs, bacon) while Court attempts to ball some melon. Yeah. The cantaloupe was looking more like peach slivers... let me do it. AWWW YEAH!! Ya girl is handy with the tool! One cantaloupe, honey dew, a bunch of green and red grapes, and a diced pineapple later, brekky is ready. We eat and get back to the fruit. Ash has traced a line and cut out the necc. parts. now its time for me to get to ballin the melon.

But wait, Ash isn't finished. We must have a decorative basket, complete with jagged edges.

That thing came out so fierce!! I can't wait to make my own and show off my skillz! THANKS ASH FOR MAKING ME WATCH THE TUTORIAL!!!


So while we're eating and prepping, Jo, Court's beau and Jo's pops are grilling the meat. Ribs and chicken have been leaving the kitchen and coming back o so sweet! Pans and pans of meat! But this was only the hard stuff! There were still georgia boy sausage and hamburgers to throw down on when guest start arriving around 1pm. Around 1pm, the 1st people show up. White people, of course. We didn't start seeing our folk till 2pm; that's when we went to get ready. Other Ash, Bea, and I had our teal/turquoise on and were reds-ta-go! Our Ash had on a polo where the horse was teal... *side eye*

Everyone who matters is at the bbq. Prayers are said and we get to grubbin. OMG,

there was waaaaaaay more food of course but that was what I ate.

the kids are in the bounce house, the dj is jamming and now its karaoke time. the old people get up there and do the mandatory old school jams (aretha, commodores) then we get up and do "Soldier" by DC. It was horrible!! NO ONE KNEW THE WORDS!! ABOUT 10 CHICKS ON TWO MICS, LIP SYNCING HORRIBLY!

but we looked good.

The day is pretty much chill; Bea got up and did Whitney, I got up and did Kool an.d the Gang, but the real funny part is this.

If you've ever been to a karaoke night, you know that its usually fun and games but there is this ONE person who sings for real, like she wants to get discovered. There was one here. She attempted to do Tam.ia's "Stranger /in My House". She said her mic wasn't working and she wasn't singing. I was singing from the tent, trying to help her find the words. People start leaving slowly; we (Ash and I) go back inside to hit the showers before the masses and get a nap in. CC joins us inside, we all get clean and hit the sack. But what kind of 4th would it be without fireworks?

Jo starts them up in the backyard, right next to the bedroom window. I can't sleep, get up, and go watch. Then somehow, I ended up in the bounce house... I must've sleepwalked(? sleptwalk? sleptwalked?) over there.. I just don't know!


kidding. that thing is mad fun. and a serious workout so I stop. Plus I just showered and wrapped my hair. Now I really go inside and pass out on the couch. The rest of the weekend coming soon!

the Purge

We already know that my lil sis is off to college. The baby got an A on her 1st quiz and I was toooooooooo excited for her!! I was like, "THE BABY GOT HER 1ST 'A' IN COLLEGE!! AWWWW, LAWD! ITS GOING BY TOO FAST!!!!"

she called me "extra and dramatic."

BTW: 8 years ago, when I was a college freshman (damn), I was dubbed 'Miss Drama' and not cause I was from Florida.

Wait. Why am I here? I didn't tell you?? I've been elected dog-sitter emeritus! This time, mom told me where some of my old sneakers and socks are "just in case [I] want to take them for a walk".

So I'm here dog/house sitting for the parents who, on a whim, decide to take a vacay! OMG, who does that!?!? I guess when you have NO children in the house, no one to be responsible for, you can just up and go with your heart's desires. My roomie's parents decided to take a whale watching cruise in Canada. She called them on their cell and they just dropped it on her like that! Word? Is that how parents get down when the kids are away?! SIGN ME UP!

I'm in the room that was once mine... then around 8 years old, it became an "our" room... then it became a "her" room and now its a "storage" room; as is my brother's. Mom has cleaned this room and made beds and arranged shoes and folded clothes... its amazing. My pop took stanley's room and made it into his domain with music in all forms all over the place. Cassettes, CDs, ipods, DVDs, and a PC to store it all on. My parents are wilin'.

In the purge of our rooms, I am literally looking at 10 pairs of shoes I haven't seen in YEARS! one of them *tear* is I think, my 1st pair of Steve Maddens. I still see the white-out my dad used to write my name with on the sole. I wore them on the 1st day of school at Hampton!!! AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! OMG, I was so embarrassed at how the 'rents tagged EVERYTHING with either a sharpie or a white-out pen!!!

There are also (I think) my 1st two pairs of pointy toe shoes (same shoe, different color patent leather. act like you know me a little bit),
one of MANY peanut-butter colored shoes I own (I LOVE that color shoe),
some silver wedges from when metallic was doing the damn thing,
some brocade pumps (wow Steve),
some round toe Steves (ewww. hate round toe. the price must've been too good),
my FAVE pair of purple shoes (I have 3. oh yeah, i also have that shoe in 'chocolate' and 'money green')
some Nine W shoes mom got me for my internship. Yeah, we knew I couldn't wear flip flops everyday.
wow. there are 3 pairs of boots (bone, peanut-butter, black) for those cold days in Tally and
some tie-up black heels.

*GASP* I JUST FOUND MY BLACK PATENT LEATHER FLIP FLOPS!!

I know that means nothing to you all, cause you know I have flip flops for days but, I had to settle for a cheap pair of flips b/c i lost this very dear pair. NO MORE CHEAP SHOES!! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Okay, so the 'ville (not to be confused with the 'Ville, i.e, Jacksonville) is all 3.5 hours away from me, 2.5 hours away from Tally-Nasty (where aNOTHER one of my homies will be attending grad school), 1 hour away from O-Town (SE direction) or the Tampa Bay Area (SW) and I'm not sure how many hours away from the A cause i've never gone to the A from the 'ville... it is str-8 up 75 so I can imagine it's 5 hours or less...

i digress.

Woo Hoo!!! Jamie is going to be in Florida!! That is like, waaaaaaaaaay closer than Pennsylvania!!!

Oh, the football games. the homecomings. the classics... cause you know PWI have their classics too!!! the OTHER florida classic is UF vs FSU. its usually the same weekend as FAMU vs BCC... bastards. WE'LL SEE!!! I can't wait for football season to start!! I can't wait for AUGUST to start!!!
